Workshop 6

MSK Ultrasound: Scan, Identify & Intervene

Venue: Hall B Main Auditorium

Musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound has emerged as an indispensable tool in modern Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, enabling real-time visualization of muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, joints and other soft-tissue structures. Ultrasound guidance enhances the precision, safety and efficacy of a wide range of diagnostic and interventional procedures.
This practical, hands-on pre-conference workshop is designed to provide participants with a structured approach to MSK ultrasound and ultrasound-guided interventions, with emphasis on sonoanatomy, procedural planning, needle visualization and safe injection techniques.

  • Fundamentals of MSK ultrasound and ultrasound machine optimization
  • Systematic approach to sonoanatomy and identification of target structures
  • Ultrasound assessment of muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, bursae and peripheral nerves
  • Dynamic ultrasound examination and correlation with clinical findings
  • Principles of ultrasound-guided needle placement and intervention
  • In-plane and out-of-plane needle guidance techniques
  • Ultrasound-guided interventions for common shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle conditions
  • Practical approach to tendinopathies, bursitis, joint disorders and periarticular pain
  • Principles and techniques of diagnostic and therapeutic injections
  • Strategies for improving procedural accuracy and patient safety
  • Recognition and prevention of potential complications
  • Integration of clinical examination, ultrasound findings and intervention planning
  • Live demonstrations and hands-on practice under expert supervision
  • Interactive case-based discussions and troubleshooting of challenging procedures

The workshop is particularly relevant for PM&R physicians, pain physicians, sports medicine specialists, orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists, radiologists and other clinicians interested in incorporating MSK ultrasound and ultrasound-guided interventions into their clinical practice.

The workshop aims to equip participants with practical, clinically applicable skills in MSK ultrasound-guided interventions, enabling them to accurately identify target structures, plan procedures, perform ultrasound-guided needle placement and deliver interventions with greater precision, confidence and safety.
