ICMR BOOT CAMP ON ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

“Assistive Technology for All: From Innovation to Inclusion”

Venue: Ground Floor Nursing College

Assessment • Access • Affordability • Innovation • Inclusion
Assistive Technology (AT) is a powerful enabler of independence, participation and quality of life for persons with disabilities. With rapid advances in digital technology, artificial intelligence, robotics, smart devices and indigenous innovations, the role of AT in modern rehabilitation is expanding rapidly.
The ICMR Boot Camp on Assistive Technology, proposed as a pre-conference workshop of IAPMRCON 2027 at AIIMS Nagpur, will provide an intensive, multidisciplinary and practical learning experience focused on assessment, selection, prescription, application and evaluation of assistive technologies across the spectrum of disabilities.

Locomotor & Neurological Disabilities
  • Wheelchairs, seating systems, mobility aids, prostheses, orthoses, positioning, transfer and smart mobility technologies.
  • Blindness & Visual Impairment
  • Low-vision devices, Braille technology, screen readers, smartphone-based solutions, navigation systems and AI-enabled visual assistance.
  • Hearing Impairment
  • Hearing aids, assistive listening devices, communication technologies, captioning, speech-to-text and environmental alerting systems.
  • Communication & Cognitive Disabilities
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), eye-gaze technology, speechgenerating devices, cognitive aids and memory-support technologies.
  • Mental Illness, Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities
  • Technology supporting cognition, safety, medication management, communication and independent living.
  • Activities of Daily Living & Smart Environment
  • Self-care, feeding, dressing, environmental control, smart-home technologies and workplace/educational accessibility.
  • Future of Assistive Technology
  • Artificial Intelligence • Robotics • Wearables • 3D Printing • Exoskeletons • Sensors • IoT • Virtual/Augmented Reality • Digital Health
  • Hands-on • Case-based • Multidisciplinary • Research-oriented
Participants will rotate through interactive technology stations, observe live demonstrations and work through real-world cases using the approach:
    ASSESS → IDENTIFY → SELECT → PRESCRIBE → TRAIN → EVALUATE
A special “Case-to-Technology Challenge” will help participants develop practical skills in selecting the most appropriate assistive solution for individual functional needs.

The programme will also explore indigenous innovation, affordability, accessibility, costeffectiveness, user experience, implementation research and AI-driven assistive technology, with a dedicated focus on translating innovative ideas into clinically relevant research.
Participants will gain practical insights into person-centred AT assessment and prescription, contemporary assistive technologies, low-cost and indigenous solutions, emerging digital technologies and research opportunities in assistive technology.
